How do you MATR?

Do you ever find yourself sitting on the floor? We do, and for many reasons - folding laundry, playing with little ones, wrapping gifts, meditating, artsy projects, lounging reclined reading a book or star-gazing, tea around the coffee table, marshmallows around the campfire, solving over-populated living room issues, etc.

When you do sit on the floor, how long does it take before you start squirming because your foot or back-side falls asleep, or that sciatic nerve starts to flair? For many, sitting on the ground can be challenging. In fact, many don't even chance it. Chair please!

I, myself, though (pretty) young and (mostly) spry, have had low back injuries, and sometimes get little panging reminders of them when I sit low for too long. Back when I was pregnant, I remember well that sitting flat on my tush was extra uncomfy (and difficult to get the two of us up from)!

So, when designing these cushions, we payed super special attention to the way they kept our spines aligned and our bodies relaxed. I'm a (not currently practicing) Registered Nurse, kids' yoga instructor, yoga and meditation practitioner, and a very active mama. Jeff also practices yoga and meditation, is a former Pilates instructor, and a current 2nd grade teacher. Michael is an industrial engineer with a background in upholstery & pillow design. Throughout the design process, in order to ensure that we were on the right track, we also consulted chiropractors, holistic healers, other parents of little people, musicians, artists, yogis, meditators, and others who had floor sitting needs.

What we have come up with are cushions that promote a slight forward tilt of the hips, aligning the spine and allowing us to sit comfy.

Now, I don't hesitate to pull out a cushion and sit (or lounge reclined) while my guests take the couches. Plus, I no longer get those pesky hip and back pangs from sitting on, or getting up off, the ground.

If you're a regular floor sitter, or would like to be but find it too uncomfortable, give'em a try. I hope they work as well for you as they do for me!

Wishing you comfort, peace, and happiness,

Lauren, MATR Co-Founder
